Feed your skin - inside and out

health | ingredients | St Lucia

The skin is our largest organ and how we look after it is vital in the fight against dryness, irritating skin complaints and environmental damage.

By paying a bit more attention to what you’re feeding it with - from what you include in your diet to what you put on your skin - we can all have happier, healthier, more balanced skin.

Knowing we should be aiming for 8-10 glasses of water a day is one thing - doing it is quite another. We’ve found that flavouring a jug of filtered tap water with any of the following really helps us achieve the magic two litres: a sprig of mint, a couple of slices of cucumber, a wedge of lemon or lime or a cut-up strawberry or two. Any of these will give a delicious edge to what otherwise can feel pretty uninspiring.

On the outside, make sure your bodycare routine includes some of our favourite oils. They’re all brilliant at hydrating and adding moisture and deliver a range of powerful skincare benefits.

Argan [Argania spinosa] oil

Argan Tree

High in vitamin E and fatty acids, argan oil is absorbed easily and is non-greasy. Great for sensitive skin, it’s also rich in squalene, ferulic acid, carotenoids, anti-inflammatory linoleic acid and nourishing oleic acid. Known by many as ‘liquid gold’, it’s been loved for centuries for its nutrient-rich purity. It’s non-comedogenic meaning it won’t block pores so is even suitable for congested, oily skin.

Argan oil is in our Argan, Almond & Cacao Body Butter amongst other products.

Cocoa [Theobroma cocoa] seed butter

Cocoa

Intensively moisturising and beautifully scented, cocoa seed butter is the fat obtained from the seeds of the cocoa tree by pressing and filtering.  High in vitamin E and the fatty acids we all need for healthy, supple skin, it’s quick to be absorbed. Its high antioxidant level helps fight off free-radical damage. There is anecdotal evidence that cocoa butter is helpful in helping scars to heal and many pregnant women love to moisturise with it to minimise stretch marks. Oleic, palmitic and stearic acids are excellent skin nourishers.

Cocoa seed butter is in our Three Shell Scrub amongst other products.

Shea [Vitellaria paradoxa] butter

Shea

Shea butter gently moisturises whilst delivering oleic acid, a saturated fatty acid which is readily absorbed by the skin. A rich source of antioxidants, it’s fantastic for smoothing and nurturing dry skin.

Shea butter is in our Avocado & Lime Smile Reviver amongst other products.

Macadamia [Macadamia integrifolia] nut oil

Macadamia

Lightweight and high in essential fatty acids, macadamia nut oil has anti-inflammatory and hydrating properties for youthful, glowing skin. With antioxidant properties and rich in phytosterols, which aid absorption, macadamia oil is brilliant at delivering hydration to the deeper layers of the skin. Palmitoleic acid, naturally found in the skin but which depletes as we age, helps minimise blemishes and signs of lines.

Macadamia nut oil is in our Cacao & Kaolin Clay Thermal Body Mask.

Babussu [Attalea speciosa] oil

Babussu

Rich in lauric and myristic acids that help promote healthy cells, babussu oil is a brilliant moisturiser which melts on contact with the skin. The essential acids also help to restore your skin’s strength and reduce water loss for better skin hydration. A natural anti-inflammatory, babussu oil can be helpful in treating eczema.

Babussu oil is in our Cacao & Babussu Body Lotion.

Sweet almond [Prunus amygdalus dulcis] oil

Almonds

Nourishing and reparative, sweet almond oil is gentle and mild yet incredibly powerful. Vitamins A, D and E along with omega 3 and 6 boost skin hydration, promote elasticity and deliver soft, supple skin. It’s easily absorbed, too.

Sweet almond oil is in our Liquid Chocolate Body Mask amongst other products.

Mango [Mangifera indica] seed oil

Rich in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants including calcium, potassium, vitamins A, B, C and E, mango seed oil is brilliant for skin in need of a little TLC. Softening and healing, it moisturises beautifully without leaving a greasy residue.

Mango seed oil is in our Cacao & Wild Honey Hand Cream amongst others.

Jojoba [Simmondsia chinensis] oil

Jojoba

Skin loves jojoba oil; it’s easily absorbed, extremely hydrating and doesn’t leave a greasy layer on the skin. Anti-inflammatory properties help calm and reduce redness whilst vitamin B and E help skin repair itself.

Jojoba oil is in our Sugar & Sour Orange Body Scrub amongst others.
